Monthly Update

You’ve probably all heard the expression (and if you’re like me, typed it a million times in Typing Class!) “Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country”.  Well, now is the time to jump in and get involved with the Auxiliary!  We need all of you in many ways, and I know you can find an area you would enjoy in all that we have going on.  Here goes:

Every Friday morning, Rosie Johnson provides a special program for the children in the day care.  If you would like to help with crafts, story telling, games, outdoor play, etc., please contact Rosie at srhaj@charter.net .

Janis Hagen and Mary Carol McDaniel host monthly birthday and special holiday parties for the residents and their children, so contact jkjhagen@charter.net or thefourmcds@hotmail.com  to help out.

Our home needs are ongoing, and Tori Rebman at tprebman@charter.net is the lady with all the answers for that area.

We’ve had generous donations of a treadmill and stationery bike from Cynthia Morgus and an elliptical machine from Kelly Orr, and now we need workout videos or DVD’s to get our fitness room up and running.

The HHS Support Committee's big shindig, "Boots, Blues & Barbeque" with Taylor Hicks and First Lady Patsy Riley was held Saturday, May 10th, under the stars at a beautiful equestrian farm near Leeds.  Chris Porter and the Back Row Baptists band provided foot-stomping music in addition to Taylor Hicks' outstanding performance, Mrs. Riley's gracious presence and ever-present humor added to the fun, and it was a profitable night for the Support Committee.  Congratulations to all of those who worked so hard to make it a success!!

And our fundraisers continue . . .

Our generous friends in the Greystone Outreach Legacy Foundation presented the HHS Auxiliary with a check for $10,000 which was part of the proceeds from Barefoot On the Green, a fabulous party which was held in May on the greens of Greystone Golf and Country Club.  We are so grateful!

Thanks so much to all of you who came to our beautiful Spring Tablescapes.  It was a big success – we made more this year than last year, and that is our goal:  bigger and better for Hannah Home Shelby!!  It was our pleasure to host a coffee to say "thank you" to our decorators, and to get their suggestions and ideas for next year.  Plans are already in the works, and we are very excited!

At the General Membership meeting on June 16th, President Judi Nebergall presented Lew Burdette, President of The King's Ranch and Hannah Homes, with a check for $100,000 on behalf of the Auxiliary.  This is the first contribution of funds which will go toward the operating expenses of Hannah Home Shelby, and our goal is to continue making annual donations.

Thanks to our Home Needs Chairman, Tori Rebman, four of the older HHS children attended camps this past summer.  For three weeks, they rode horses, swam, hiked, canoed and made new friends at Hargis Day Camp which is run by the Y.  For the remainder of the summer, they will enjoy the many fun activities offered by St. Vincent's 119 Health and Wellness Day Camp.  Both of these wonderful organizations very generously waived the fee so that these kids could have a great summer.  What a blessing!

And I’ll close with a reminder that Hannah Home Shelby needs us and is so appreciative of everything we do for them, so if you have some time you could spare to help out at the home in any capacity, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator Mary Ann Nelson at rema3540@bellsouth.net.  If you are unsure as to whether or not you’ve been cleared to work, call me at 437-3237.

Love and prayers of thanksgiving for all of you and your generous hearts for the women and children of Hannah Home Shelby,

 Judi
